Flammability test is conducted to understand the flame-resistant properties of plastic materials used in electrical devices. External parts of non-metallic materials, parts of insulating material supporting live parts shall be sufficiently resistance to heat. Deterioration of these parts may cause failure of the appliances. Glow wire test and needle flame test are two important tests for the material flammability. URS has state of art test facility for these two-test followed by National and international standards.
The glow wire test & Needle Flam test is covered by IEC 60695-2 series. Details are:
IEC 60695-2-10: Glow-wire apparatus and common test procedure
IEC 60695-2-11: Glow-wire flammability test method for end products (GWEPT)
IEC 60695-2-12: Glow-wire flammability index (GWFI) test method for materials
IEC 60695-2-13: Glow-wire ignition temperature (GWIT) test method for materials
IEC 60695-11-2:2017 – Fire hazard testing – Part 11-2: Test flames – 1 kW pre-mixed flame – Apparatus, confirmatory test arrangement and guidance
IEC 60695-11-5:2016 – Fire hazard testing – Part 11-5: Test flames – Needle-flame test method – Apparatus, confirmatory test arrangement and guidance
